Recover your work when Inkscape crashes

inkscapeOccasionally you might find that you need to recover some work after Inkscape crashes. This article describes the process when using a Mac, but hopefully the procedure is similar on other platforms.

Where are my autosaves?

We will start by discovering where your files are autosaved.

  1. Start Inkscape.
  2. Go to Inkscape > Preferences.
  3. In the Preferences dialog box, select Input/Output > Autosave in the left pane.
  4. Note the Autosave directory.

On my Mac this directory was:

/Users/steven/Library/Application Support/org.inkscape.Inkscape/cache/inkscape

Browse to Library folders

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Press and hold the Option key.
  3. From the Go menu, select Library.

Now you can browse to the address above, where hopefully you'll find a recently saved version of your work.

Thanks for visiting,
Steven
