Accessing ClearOS with SSH

clearosIf you need to remotely access your ClearOS server using a secure shell (SSH) this article shows you how.


SSH Server

SSH Server is included as part of the ClearOS installation.  To access it from various workstations you need to use the relevant SSH client.

 

Linux

Accessing ClearOS from a Linux workstation.  The SSH client is typically installed by default so you can start a  Terminal session and then enter the following:

$ sudo ssh 192.168.1.1
  1. Accept the warnings and enter the root password for your ClearOS server.

 

Mac OS X

Mac OS X also has an SSH client installed by default. Start by going to Applications > Utilities > Terminal.

$ sudo ssh 192.168.1.1
  1. Enter your local user password.
  2. Accept the warnings.
  3. Enter the root password for your ClearOS server.

 

Windows

Windows does not have an SSH client installed.  I recommend using PuTTY.

  1. Visit the PuTTY website and download the latest version of putty.exe.
  2. Open putty.exe.
  3. Click Run in the Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
  4. Host Name:  Enter the hostname or the IP address for your ClearOS server.
  5. Leave all other defaults.
  6. Click Open.
  7. Click Yes in the PuTTY Security Alert box.
Login as: root
root@ipaddress password:  YourPassword
