Increasing iSCSI storage

vmwareIf you are starting to run out of storage space for your vms, you might decide to increase your iSCSI storage capacity.


Increase your SAN's iSCSI allocation

Here is the routine if you use Openfiler.

  1. Log in to your Openfiler management screen.
  2. Go to Volumes > Manage Volumes.
  3. Select the appropriate volume group to display and click Change.
  4. Click Edit for the iSCSI volume.
  5. Enter a New volume size in MB.
    1. Note that the volume must be larger.
  6. Click Change.
  7. Return to Volumes > Manage Volumes to see your new size.


Increase Storage on ESXi server

  1. Go to Configuration > Hardware > Storage.
  2. Select the Datastore that needs to be increased.
  3. Click Properties...
  4. Click Increase.
  5. Select the LUN and note that it is Expandable.
  6. Click Next and Next again.
  7. Leave Maximise capacity selected.
  8. Click Next and then Finish.
