Installing Xcode on Mac OSX

xcodeThe first step in creating an iOS app, is to install the Xcode application on your Mac device.  This article describe the installation process.

This installation is being run on OSX 10.9.2.  I expect that the procedure will be similar for recent versions of OSX.  Note that you'll need over 2GB of hard drive space to download and install Xcode.

App Store

Start by opening the App Store.

  1. Start Finder.
  2. Go to Applications > App Store.
  3. Search for Xcode.
  4. Install the free Xcode app.
  5. You'll need to enter your AppleID password.

If you click Launchpad on the dock, you should see the download progress for the installation of Xcode.  Once the download and install is finished, Xcode will appear in the Applications folder.  The first time you run Xcode, it will install some components.
