How to create ISO files from CDs or DVDs

appleUsing Mac OSX is arguably the easiest way to create ISO files from CDs and DVDs.

The software is built in to the OS and this article outlines the steps.


Create an ISO file

  1. Insert your CD.
  2. Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
  3. Select your CD in the left-hand pane.
  4. Click New Image.
  5. Choose DVD/CD Master as the Image Format.
  6. Click Save.
  7. This will create a .cdr file.
  8. Simply rename the .cdr extension to .iso.
