When GPO application delivery goes bad!

server2003Occasionally you will find that application delivery using Group Policies goes awry!  This routine might help save you having to rebuild the workstation.  Do remember if the routine goes wrong you may end up rebuilding the workstation anyway!

Delete registry keys

This is a delicate step, so make sure that you're deleting the correct key folders.

  1. Go to Start > Run.
  2. Type regedit and press return.
  3. You are now in the Registry Editor console.
  4. In the left pane browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Group Policy > GPOMgmt.
  5. Delete any eroneous Registry Key folders.


Force a group policy update

  1. Go to Start > Run.
  2. Type cmd and press return.
  3. You are now in Command Prompt window.
  4. Type gpupdate /force.

Your workstation may now require a reboot, depending on the Group Policy Objects that may have been applied.
