libpam-smbpass bug

ubuntuThere appears to be a bug with Samba.  I had this error displayed every time I logged on to a new install of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with the Samba file server software selection.

no talloc stackframe leaking memory

I had the following error displayed...

no talloc stackframe at ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4864, leaking memory

On investigation this appears to be related to the libpam-smbpass package.  This package is responsible for synchronising SMB passwords with the local system user passwords.  The fix is to run the following command

$ sudo pam-auth-update

...and then disable "SMB password synchronisation".

Thanks for visiting.
