There are many aspects to Drupal configuration

drupalIn fact there are probably as many ways as there are sites.  To help you get started here are some tips for changes that you will usually want to implement.

Trusted Host Patterns

Drupal uses a system that allows you to whitelist hostnames.  On your newly installed Drupal website, browse to Manage > Reports > Status Report.

  1. You will typically see an error for the Trusted Host Settings.
  2. Using your File Manager, set write permissions for the following:
    1. /sites/default directory.
    2. /sites/default/settings.php
  3. Add the following line to the top of the settings.php file.
$settings['trusted_host_patterns'] = array('^.*\.yourdomain.com$',);

Note that when you next visit the Status report page, the permissions for these files are automatically reset to read-only.

SSL Certificate

It is good practice to secure your Drupal website with an SSL certificate.
