Installing Joomla templates

joomlaExtensionsTemplates are another type of extension, and are used to create the appearance of your site.  A template uses various image files and CSS to transform the look of your site.

If you'd like to change the look of your site, this article will show you how.

Your first step is to find a template that you like and there are a lot of free and commercial templates (google for Joomla Templates).

Here are my current favourite template sites...

Once you've found something you like, download the .zip file.

Templates can be installed like any other extension.

Alternatively you can use an FTP client or eXtplorer to upload and extract your .zip file into the /templates directory of your site.

To change the default template...

  1. Go to  Extensions > Template Manager.
  2. Select the radio button for your new template, and click Default.
  3. You can also click Edit to further change your selected template.
