Helping search bots to find your site

joomlaExtensionsSearch bots are bits of software (also known as spiders) that crawl the internet looking for search results (ie your website!). Spiders like websites that are easy to read, and when they find one, that website gets a boost in the search ratings.

Adding a site map to your website allows spiders to quickly discover all your pages, and in conjunction with Google Webmaster Tools you can force the spiders to see your website.  Learn how to install Joomla extensions to get yourself started.

Visit the Joomla extensions site to review OSMap and to get the latest version.

Installation

Visit the Joomlashack website, and click the link to download the free version of OSMap. You'll need to enter your email address and you'll be sent a link to download the latest version. There is a paid option that adds more features, but the free version is great for a basic Joomla website.

Configuration

  1. Go to Components > OSMap Free > Sitemaps.
  2. There are 4 types of sitemap links as follows:
    1. XML: This is the XML sitemap version that you need to submit it to Google.
    2. HTML: This is the HTML that you can display to your visitors.
    3. News: This is the sitemap version for Google News.
    4. Images: This is the sitemap version to submit your images to Google.

You will need the XML URL for the next step.
