Using reCAPTCHA on your website

joomlaYou may find that your contact form is being spammed, in which case you can enable the Captcha service on your Joomla website and this will hopefully reduce the form submissions to only genuine human beings. This article describes the process.


Create a reCAPTCHA key

We will start by creating a reCAPTCHA key.

  1. Browse to the Google reCAPTCHA site.
  2. Log on with a user account.
  3. In the Register for a new site area, enter a Label (e.g. your School name).
  4. Choose the type of reCAPTCHA (e.g. v2).
  5. Click the Register button

You will now have access to the Adding reCAPTCHA to your site area, where you will find the Site key and the Secret key.

 

Configuring the plugin

  1. Go to Extensions > Plugins.
  2. Open the Captcha - reCaptcha plugin for editing.
  3. Enter the Site key and Secret key, by copying and pasting from the Google reCAPTCHA site.
  4. Enable the plugin.
  5. Click Save & Close.

 

Global Configuration

Now you can use this plugin to provide the Captcha service on your website.

  1. Go to System > Global Configuration.
  2. Select the Site tab.
  3. In the Site Settings section select Captcha - reCaptcha for the Default Captcha setting.
  4. Click Save & Close.
