Using anchors and links in Joomla

joomlaWhen writing articles in Joomla you will often use hyperlinks to point visitors to other pages of content. This article describes how to do this with TinyMCE, but the process will be similar for other editors.

Inserting Anchors

To use Anchors in your links you first have to add an Anchor to some content.

  1. Go to Content > Articles.
  2. Open your article for editing.
  3. Place the cursor where you would like the anchor to be located (usually at the beginning of a line).
  4. Click the Anchor button Anchor
    1. ID: Give it a unique name for this page (I recommend no spaces or non-alphanumeric characters, e.g. anchorName).
  5. Click the Save button.

Inserting Links

To insert links do the following:

  1. Open an article for editing.
  2. Type some text and then select it.
  3. Click the Insert/edit link button hyperlink
    1. Enter a URL: For the URL choose one of the following types of URL
      1. Absolute: https://google.com (for linking to external websites)
      2. Relative: web/joomla/articleName  (for links to the same website relative to where the link is).
      3. Anchor: web/joomla/articleName#anchorName (add an anchor to the end of the link, to scroll to your inserted anchor)
    2. Open link in...: Choose New Window if you want to link to an absolute address.
  4. Click the Save button.
