Installing the desktop sync client

nextcloudA key feature of Nextcloud is the ability to synchronise your cloud files to a folder on your desktop. This article describes how to install the sync client software.


Windows client

Nextcloud provide this software for free download from their website.

  1. Browse to nextcloud.com.
  2. Go to Get Nextcloud > Desktop and mobile apps.
  3. Expand the DOWNLOAD FOR DESKTOP section.
  4. Click the Windows 10 64-bit button

This will download the latest version of the Windows client, that also works on Windows 11.

 

macOS client

This software is available from the Nextcloud website.

  1. Browse to nextcloud.com.
  2. Go to Get Nextcloud > Desktop and mobile apps.
  3. Expand the DOWNLOAD FOR DESKTOP section.
  4. Click the macOS 10.14+, 64-bit (universal) button

This will download the latest version of the macOS client.

 

Linux client

Start a terminal session and run the following code.

sudo sh -c "echo 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:/ownCloud:/desktop/xUbuntu_14.04/ /' >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/owncloud-client.list"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install owncloud-client

 

Older versions

You might find that the latest version isn't working for you as expected, and you need to use an older client. Start by browsing to Nextcloud's online repository of older desktop clients.

From here you can select the client that you know will work for you.
